I wish I could say that I could celebrate National Adoption month with some exciting news, but it looks like I’ll have to wait until next year. But, that’s not what this post is about.
You’ve probably gathered for all my posts, that there are many different types of adoption (open, closed, semi-open), many ways to adopt (kinship, foster to adopt, private, international), and many reasons why people adopt. I encourage you to ask questions, talk to adoptees and adoptive parents, and learn from them. Not so that you can adopt (you can if you want) but find out more about the process and what they have gone through and why they started on the adoption journey. Despite what is commonly promoted, there are more reasons to adopt than not being able to have children.
As with all things in life, it’s best to go into the conversation with an open mind. I know of other adoptive parents who have had incredibly easy adoptions through foster to adopt – although these stories are few. And, I know quite a few adoptive parents who had incredibly easy and fast adoptions through private adoption. No story is exactly the same. I also ask that you don’t make assumptions about childless adults. Not everyone wants to be a parent. The world needs as many good aunties and uncles as they do parents because…it takes a village.
A huge congratulations to all those who successfully adopted over the last 12 months. Congratulations!
Thinking of you Maeve you are a great mother . Its just a matter of time now . The holidays will be great this year .💕🙏☘️
