The Start of Year Six

I’m determined that this is the last time I write a blog called “The Start of Year…” and I’m sure you’ll all be happy when I no longer have to write that. If I knew six years ago what I know now, I wouldn’t have started this process. What is done is done and hopefully the future holds amazing things.

So yup, this January is the start of year six of my adoption journey. There have been tons of lows, a few highs, a bankruptcy (not me, one of my agencies), three failed adoptions (two after birth and one after flying out to Cleveland to pick the little guy up), and three foster children in my home. But, what has been consistent is the support and love from you all.

As I begin year six of trying to be a mom (okay, a legally appointed mom…I’m aware I’m little man’s mom now) I have faith that this process will be finalized this summer and that it will be in my favor, little man’s favor, and your favor.

We have a big court hearing this coming week and although we fully anticipate the bio-mom to appeal the decision, we are hopeful for the outcome we want. What’s on our side is that little man has been with me since he was two days old and he’ll be two years old in a few weeks. But, with the county, you can never sit back and say “I got this.” There almost always seems to be a curve ball thrown in somewhere.

Little man is getting big, is repeating sooooo much (some days it’s a bit too much, lol), is an incredibly active boy, and is so happy. When I have hard days and it’s a challenge to be a working, single mom of a foster child, I am quickly reminded of those whom have it much harder than I do. I am very thankful and grateful for the presence of this little man in my life.

As I start year six, thank you for being by my side through this long journey. Thank you for your love and support and thank you for all the love you have given little man. We are both incredibly lucky.
